The Writer’s Oasis #1: Inspiration to Fuel Your Week
Prompt. Tip. Spark. In Under 3 Minutes. A Weekly Space to Pause, Reflect, and Refuel Your Writing Spirit
Welcome to The Writer's Oasis
I've spent much of my life immersed in the world of words — as a writer, educator, and language lover. Over the years, I've realized that, as writers, we need more than just time; we need gentle support to keep our creative spark alive.
That's why I've created The Writer's Oasis — a quiet, nourishing corner of Substack where we can refill our creative wells, share encouragement, and step into the week with inspiration in hand. As part of my Savor Life Studio journey, I wanted to carve out a space where writers like us can connect, grow, and feel supported.
I hope these weekly posts offer you something helpful and inspiring—and a sense of community with fellow writers who have traveled a similar path over time.
Let's dive in!
Tiny Reflection
For decades, a simple poster hung on my classroom wall: “Write from your own experiences.”
It’s a truth I return to again and again.
Writing from your own experiences can easily ignite fresh inspiration and leave writer’s block in the dust.
We are the experts of our narratives — and in those lived moments lie the very sparks we need to access the words that await our careful attention.
That’s why I created this space. I want to offer a gentle rhythm to begin your week: something real, practical, and encouraging—a pause, a breath, a return to the quiet moments of inspiration within you.
Prompt of the Week
Think of five small moments from your life that made a lasting impression — no matter how ordinary.
Pick one and write for 10 minutes.
What happened? Why does it still live in you? Start with a simple sentence: “I didn’t think it would matter, but…”
Actionable Note: Save the list. You’re building a growing library of real-life entry points — yours to return to whenever the words stall.
Exploring a small, everyday moment can plant the seeds for a powerful story or poem. When cultivated with care, these ordinary moments can reap big rewards, sparking and blossoming in unexpected ways.
Creative Spark
If the moment had a color, what would it be?
If it had a smell? A season?
Write a short paragraph using only metaphor or image. Don’t name the emotion — show it.
Including sensory details can breathe life into our struggles and truths, allowing the reader to connect more deeply with our emotions.
Call to Action:
Take a moment to reflect on a tiny moment from your life — just one sentence.
This can be:
A moment that still lingers in your heart
Something simple but meaningful
A turning point or a quiet, everyday experience
Please share your sentence with me, and I’ll create a writing prompt list (PDF) from your moments for all of us to draw inspiration.
My tiny moment: Looking out upon open waters, lost in the lingerings of so many yesterdays.
I can’t wait to read your words. I believe these shared moments will inspire us all and help us grow together as a supportive writing community.
A Tender Imagining of Love, Unburdened.
Yesterday morning, I was inspired to write a poem titled, What If. Here is the link if you would like to give it a read:
Trust Your Voice
Here’s to showing up, even on the tough days. Even if you don’t feel ready, the words are waiting, and they’ll arrive when you’re prepared to meet them.
I’ll be back next Monday with another missive for The Writer’s Oasis. Until then, may you trust your voice and keep showing up for it. I’m very excited to read your two small moments.
Thank you so much for creating this, Lis. Bless you!
Thank you!! 😊
