Gifts Galore ~ Waterfalls, FREEBIES, & Pure Relaxation
Waterfalls, Breathwork, and a Dash of Adventure—This Week’s Gifts for You
Dear Friends,
First, I'm sending a heartfelt thank you for being here. Every new subscriber, every kind word, and every moment you spend reading these newsletters means the world to me. With all the challenges ever-present in our daily lives, I want this space to feel different—like a deep breath, a quiet pause, a gentle reset.
This past week has been a whirlwind of learning as I continue navigating Substack, and I immensely enjoyed writing about my first—and only—triathlon experience. If you've ever had a moment where reality clashed with expectation in the most unexpected ways, you'll understand why this story continues to dwell in the memory vault of my younger days. Read the story here: Tangled Triathlons, Tortuous Truths
And now, let's dive into this week's highlights.
1. A Simple Reset: Box Breathing for Instant Calm
Feeling overwhelmed or scattered? Box breathing is a powerful yet straightforward practice used by athletes, first responders, and mindfulness practitioners to steady the mind and body. Try this when you need a quick moment of peace:
✨ Inhale for four counts
✨ Hold for four counts
✨ Exhale for four counts
✨ Hold for four counts
Repeat this cycle a few times, letting each breath bring you back to the present moment. I use this practice regularly, which has become my go-to technique during stress or discomfort.
2. This Week’s Highlight: A Waterfall Escape
My husband and I hiked to Marymere Falls, a breathtaking waterfall nestled in the lush forests on the Olympic Peninsula of Washington State.
I clambered up a steep hillside and filmed a short video of the falls. May this provide you with a moment of pure relaxation to bring nature’s peace into your day. My husband was a bit concerned as I was dangling far above the earthen trail below, but thankfully, it all worked out okay.
And because I believe music can transport us, I’m also sharing a calming piano and nature soundtrack to accompany you whenever you need a peaceful reset. I filmed this beach scene at Fort Worden State Park in Washington, which has long been sacred to me and my family. One Hour of Relaxing Ocean Waves and Piano Music for Sleep, Meditation, and Focus
