These conversations with kids are so awesome! I love that they pointed out the parents. My husband is a video game developer and I, obviously, am on here a lot trying to make it my work. So we have lots of conversations about how to explain to our daughter how we limit our own screen time even though we are on it for work. We talk about when we are working or reading vs scrolling aimlessly or when is an important time to put screens away. We also talk about not double screening in front of her, wanting her to be able to focus on just one thing.

Thank you very much for taking the time to read, restack, and comment on this post. I also found it very telling when students began speaking about their parents’ tech use.

Finding balance with technology within the family structure can be incredibly challenging. Your commitment to discussing work-life balance with your daughter and setting positive examples is truly admirable. You are fostering lifelong skills she will carry with her throughout life.

I sincerely appreciate you sharing your own experiences around technology use. Thank you! 💖💖💖

This pulled at my heartstrings... “Well, what about my parents? They are on their phones all the time and hardly ever pay attention to me.”

Many years ago, when my son was about 12, he told me he didn't want to watch films with me anymore. That had always been something we'd enjoyed together. At the time, I was busy building my business. He said it was because I was still checking my phone or the laptop.

He was right. That day, I made a promise to him that this would never happen again.

He's 24 now, and we still enjoy watching films together. But this was a tough lesson to learn from my child. One I hadn't spotted myself. x

Your words flew straight to my heart, Wendy. I sincerely appreciate you sharing this story, and it resonates deeply with me. It speaks volumes that your son had the courage to express how he was feeling, that you listened, and that you made a change that has enriched both of your lives over many years.

This tender balancing act between family, work, and technology is something I have given a great deal of thought to. I hope that through dialogue, sharing, and thoughtful consideration, awareness of the importance of being fully present with loved ones will continue to grow. Thank you so much for taking the time to share and comment, and I wish you much beauty and peace in the coming days. 💖💖💖
